Practical tips
- Single-sided design. Both directions of the M6 Toll use the same building, accessed by short slip roads. A walk-around is the same regardless of direction of travel.
- Last fuel before the toll plaza. Fill up here if you are running low and approaching the plaza, both directions.
- EV stop strategy. A 25 to 35 minute charge fits neatly with a coffee and a comfort break. Avoid lunchtime peaks (12:30 to 14:00) for shorter queues.
- Hotel for early flights. Days Inn here is a budget option for early Birmingham Airport departures, although Premier Inn at the airport itself is usually better located.
Services FAQ
Are Norton Canes services accessible without paying the toll?
Yes, in one direction. You can enter from the local road network at Norton Canes (off the A5 / A460) without using the M6 Toll. From the toll itself, services sit between T6 and T7 on both carriageways. If you exit at T6 or T7 you pay for the zones travelled, not the full £11.60.
Are EV charging speeds good?
Yes. GRIDSERVE Electric Highway runs ultra-rapid devices, with 150 kW or higher available on most stalls. Realistic 10 to 80% charge times for a typical EV are 25 to 35 minutes. Contactless payment from a card or app, no membership required.
Can I book the Days Inn directly?
Yes. The hotel is bookable via Days Inn or any major aggregator. Rooms are basic but reliable. Walk to all services from the hotel in under 2 minutes.
Heading to or from Norton Canes for fuel only? You may not need to use the full toll route. See zone pricing.
