T1 to T4 FAQ

How much is T1 to T4 on the M6 Toll?
A car (Class 2) pays £9.10 contactless or £8.00 on a Breeze account, the 2-zone rate. A motorbike pays £4.70 (£4.00 Breeze). Class 3 (car-plus-trailer or large van) is £13.70 (£11.90 Breeze).
Why does T1 to T4 cost 2 zones, not 3?
T4 sits inside Zone 2. A T1-to-T4 trip crosses Zone 1 (where T1 sits) and enters Zone 2 (where T4 sits), so the operator bills 2 zones. You would only be charged 3 zones if your journey crossed into Zone 3, which starts beyond the T6 boundary.
What is at T4 to make this journey useful?
T4 (also known as Lichfield north) is the closest junction to Lichfield city centre and Burntwood. It connects to the A5127 for the cathedral, the bishop's palace and Lichfield retail. From the M42 / NEC corridor this is the cleanest off-motorway access to north Lichfield without doubling back through Tamworth or the city streets.
How long does T1 to T4 take?
Around 12 to 14 minutes on the toll at the 70 mph limit, plus 60 to 90 seconds at the southbound plaza between T3 and T4. Northbound traffic from T1 passes the plaza right before exiting at T4, so factor in plaza time both directions.
Does T1 to T4 cross a plaza?
Northbound: yes, you pass the southbound plaza area (the road infrastructure is shared) but the billing event happens by ANPR for your direction of travel. Southbound from T4: yes, you cross the southbound plaza between T3 and T4 just south of your entry. Contactless drivers tap once at the plaza; Breeze and Lite accounts handle billing automatically.
Is T1 to T4 cheaper than driving via Tamworth?
Time-wise yes, money-wise no. The free A38 / A453 alternative through Curdworth and Tamworth saves the £9.10 toll but adds 20 to 30 minutes at any weekday hour, and 45 minutes plus on a school-run morning. If you are heading to Lichfield Cathedral for a service or business meeting, the toll is the lower-stress option.
